Osteoarthritic Changes of the Small Hand Joints

This photo of an elderly woman shows the typical appearance of Heberden’s nodes (distal interphalangeal joints) and Bouchard’s nodes (proximal interphalangeal joints). These apparent swellings are caused by underlying marginal osteophytes.
