This is the immunofluorescent staining of the renal biopsy of a patient with IgA nephropathy. There is strong IgA staining at the mesangial area. Whilst most patients are asymptomatic or only have microscopic hematuria, some patients can present with macroscopic hematuria after an upper respiratory tract infection or rapid renal function deterioration (due to crescentic IgA nephropathy).
