Rivermead Mobility Index (RMI)

Overview

  • A quantitative assessment of fundamental mobility disability
  • Consists of 15 items in a hierarchical difficulty
  • Score ranges from 0 – 15
    (0 indicates complete inability to perform any functional activities in the assessment)

Advantages

  • Simple
  • Valid comparisons of RMI scores between patient groups

Disadvantages

  • Does not take into consideration increases in mobility achieved through environmental modifications, e.g. assistive devices or care takers
