Modified Rankin Scale (MRS)

Overview

  • A global outcomes rating scale
  • A subjective grade from 0 – 6 based on level of independence with reference to pre-stroke activities
  • A score of 0 indicated no symptoms nor disability and a score of 6 indicates death

Advantages

  • Simple
  • Well-studied and reliable
  • Pre-morbid limitations are taken into account

Disadvantages

  • No standardized points, hence limited comparisons
